The Air League Trust Flying Scholarships

The Air League has 90 years experience in actively supporting British aviation. Its aim is 'to promote the cause of British Aviation'. From its inception the League has sought to develop air-mindedness among Britain's young people. Since its foundation in 1909, the League has done much to foster British aviation. The Parliamentary Aerospace Group (PAG) is represented by all parties of both Houses of Parliament and brings together those involved in aviation with politicians; and to raise the profile of British aviation generally by providing a forum for discussion of topical issues. The South Warwickshire Flying School is a member of the Parliamentary Aerospace Group and has represented its cause at every meeting since 1998.

The South Warwickshire Flying School is a corporate member of the Air League and conducts the Trusts residential flying scholarship courses in the area. Each year the Trust awards a number of scholarships. This year applications are invited from young men and women who are British citizens resident in the UK and who will be over 17 and under 26 on 1st April 2010. Scholarship winners will be awarded 12 hours of residential flying instruction to be flown during 2010.

Selection will be based on a formal application and either an interview at the Trust's office in London or on aptitude tests, medical tests and an interview to be conducted at the Officers and Aircrew Selection Centre, RAF Cranwell during March/April 2010.

Flying Bursaries provide between 3 to 5 hours advanced flying training in single-engine piston aeroplanes, to assist licensed pilots gain additional flying qualifications or renew a rating.  There are no age limits but most bursaries go to applicants under 30.  Applications for the 2010 awards must be submitted by 26th February 2010.
